Wearing different hats is hard. Wearing different hats in different websites is even harder. So in order to preserve our sanity we've integrated our photography portfolio into our design studio website! The design studio site now features a "Galería" page which showcases our different photography galleries, much like our old IDP site did. In addition, our web design and branding pages have also been redesign for a easier navigation.

The best part of this redesign is definitely the addition of our shop. We are currently in the process of adding more web templates and big cartel one as well!! Super excited for that one in particular since we are big fans of Big Cartel. It's our platform of choice for our design projects & our clients love it! It's got to be Leather, my faithful old Singer, Ink, my Mac and all other things Apple.

Creative icon?
Lucien Freud - an amazing artist with a superb eye for detail.

Other artistic outlets?
Soaking up other peoples creations and getting inspiration.   We live in London so there is an abundance of galleries and studios bursting with new talent.

Best advise:
Stay true to yourself and have faith in what you do.   I didn't really think I would be able to give up my day job and do this full time, but here I am.

Daytime mega crafter or creative genius by night?
Definitely a daytime mega artist!   We have a five month old son so the evenings are sanctioned for bath time and is much sleep as we can get!

Favorite materials/tools?
I generally paint on wood.   I like the smooth surface as the paint glides on so effortlessly.   I use professional grade oil paints, not really settling on one particular brand.   But I like Windsor & Newton and Utrecht a lot.

Creative icon?
Right now I look frequently at Paul Ferney, Anne Packard, Joaquin Sorolla, and Eugene Boudin.   Their color pallets are a feast for my eyes and soul.   Nature and the scenes that strike me as I drive or walk around New England are a source of never ending inspiration for me, as well.

Other artistic outlets?
I'm a mother first and foremost, which requires a great deal of creative exertion in itself.   I find myself painting other things around my home, shelves, chairs, my kitchen table.   I love building furniture, too, and get a little carried away with that at times.   I sew, quilt, garden, and cook, all in a day.   You could say I'm a bit schizophrenic in my artistic pursuits, but aren't we all?

Best advise:
Be loyal to your own sense of worth, your personal values, and your priorities.   Then, doing what you love is a part of who you are, and who you are becomes beautiful.   Doing what you love isn't selfish, because it radiates light to others, which inspires us all to be our best selves.

Daytime mega crafter or creative genius by night?
I do most of my painting while my 2 year old naps in the middle of the day.   The morning with its light is my favorite time to work, however, and if I could bottle it up to use whenever I wanted, I would.

The New York Times is celebrating 10 decades of New York City’s subway system this week in a wonderful photo essay you must view. Being a commuter myself, it's wonderful to see how the system has improved through the years... even though it has been at a cost. Original train fare was $0.05.

By the way, that's me sleeping in the 1969 picture below... Well no, not really, but you get the point! Ha!

Leather, Jersey, Silk, Wool- really, anything fabric! I also could not survive without my Husky sewing machines, the Mac (called Mavournine, “my darling”), and the giant tub that I dye fabric in.

My mother. No one has inspired me more throughout life. Watching her pick out clothes for work in the mornings is probably the most understated influence of my creative being.

Other artistic outlets?
I would have to say that I have many artistic outlets. I dabble. These outlets are of the utmost importance to my survival in the everyday-world.

Best advise:
Everyone says it: Do what you love.

I would say: Do what you love and never ever let anyone sway you from being true to yourself.

Hi, if you are coming to this site via Internet Explorer 6, you might not be getting the best experience possible. Honestly, I can't even begin to think about what your entire experience on the internet must be like? (...probably like riding a bike on the highway while cars blow by you on their way to Costco to get gallons of mayonnaise and 60-inch plasma TV's). How will you ever be able to use this website?????? You wont. You're an asshole and your browser is an asshole. So look, I'm going to be honest: I kind of hate you. BUT we c-a-n make this work. Here is what I am going to need you to do: fire up your Toshiba ShitBook© that weighs about 45 pounds, wipe the Cheeto dust off the screen, download Safari, delete Internet Explorer from your computer, punch yourself in the face, and get me a pulled pork sandwich.

Materials- Lovely gemstones and silver. Tools- My hands and fire.

Creative icon?
Wow. That’s difficult. There are so many wonderfully talented artists, designers and stylists out there and they are all inspiring. Right now, I’m loving Tine Kjeldsen.

Other artistic outlets?
I’m a super-amateur painter. I tend to be very careful when I’m making jewelry and with my painting – there’s no need, so it’s great to just let loose. I also love to garden and cook.

Best advise:
I’m not really one to give advice...I normally seek it out :). But here is goes - do something that makes you happy, have confidence, and always be learning more. “Learning more...” that sounds terribly general, but whether it’s new skills and techniques, new marketing, etc...if you are learning, you are improving.

I'm a computer girl, so my Mac is my friend. For printing, cotton paper (100% tree free!) really excites me these days.

right now it's mostly trying to take in nature, remember my love of good music, and I'd love to fit in dance again. I've taken a few guitar lessons recently and totally air guitaring it Hendrix style.

Favorite materials/tools?
my favorite tool has to be my macbook pro. i do all my design work on it and, if i'm awake, it's attached to my hip. for my photography, of course, my camera has to be my favorite tool, but photoshop is a close second! i love taking a photo and giving it a touch-up job or a whole other look through the wonders of photoshop!

Creative icon?
i'm not sure i could choose just one creative icon! there are so many talented artists and designers out there. if i had to choose one, the first that comes to mind is charlie harper. the complex simplicity of his work is just amazing to me. timeless.

Other artistic outlets?
i'm a big crafter. i love creating just about anything with my hands. i love buying thrifty items and creating something new and beautiful out of them. i feature a lot of these items on my blog. i also love embroidery, sewing, and creating just about anything.

Best advice:
do what you love and what makes you happy.

i'm definitely not your typical artist that stays up until all hours of the night creating. even when i was in college, i was the one in bed while everyone else was finishing their projects. my brain shuts off at 10 p.m. sharp. while i can sit and veg-out in font of the t.v. i can't accomplish anything productive after that time.

I'm looking to feature indie brands in this blog henceforth and I have a couple of indie designers coming up shortly. Our focus will be featuring handmade products, eco products, and those giving back. If your product fits the bill and would like to be featured email us a link to your shop.

First up is Fresh Snapped Photo photography by Lori Dunbar. During the holidays I was lucky enough to win one of Lori's beautiful photography prints and just now I have been able to formally frame it! The piece below is properly titled "At the End of the Tunnel" and it was one of the inspirations that helped me through the madness of the holiday rush. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex

On January 3 the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Annex closed here in NYC and I am glad that we made it in that day. Actually we were the last people to leave! It was safely the coldest night this winter forcing us to schlep with 4 layers of clothing but nothing was stopping us. Below are some pictures we were allowed to take inside the shop. No photography was allowed inside obviously. All I can say is that the John Lennon Exhibition was exceptional and those who were able to make it know exactly what I am talking about. This was a sad loss for NYC for sure!

It's a new year and I've skipped several personal posts already ( ie: typical new year's resolution post, I've entered a new decade in my life post, a year in review post, etc.) but I'm ok with that. The recent natural disaster that has devastated Haiti however, I can't. They believe the death toll to be over 100,000 people... that's OVER O-N-E H-U-N-D-R-E-D T-H-O-U-S-A-N-D LIVES!!!! The images coming from Haiti are heart wrenching. I think about those stranded, those struggling to survive, those living outside of Haiti not knowing how their families are, and the desperation in the air... Though these are difficult economical times for us I can't urge you more to donate. To donate to the American Red Cross: Haiti Relief and Development click on the logo below. You can also text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
